Bill Abernathy is the Lead Pastor at Berean. He majored in biblical studies, theology and pastoral leadership at Grace Seminary (D.Min), Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary (M.Div.) and Cedarville University (B.A.).
After pastoring a church in Columbus, Ohio for over 25 years, Pastor Bill came to Berean in July of 2009. He and his wife, Peggy, have 3 adult children: Kristie (married to Cristian), Josh (married to Michelle), and Caleb (married to Emily), as well as several grandchildren.
Pastor Bill’s primary role at Berean involves preaching and teaching. He speaks in most of the Sunday morning services. He leads the pastoral staff and, with them and the deacons, sets the vision and direction for Berean. He is also actively involved in some pastoral visiting and counseling.
Pastor Bill enjoys exploring new parts of Michigan, the United States, and the world with Peggy, watching baseball (especially the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers) and college football (Go Bucks), reading, puttering around the house, and spending time with his grandchildren. Hilton Head, SC is a favorite vacation spot.
